It is not too late
The year is not over, and neither are you. Here is how to pick your goal back up with grace instead of guilt.
Do you remember how January felt? Maybe you wrote a goal in a fresh journal. Maybe you prayed over it. Maybe you told a friend, this is my year.
And then life happened. The schedule filled up, the motivation faded, and somewhere around March that goal quietly slipped to the bottom of the pile. If that sounds familiar, I want you to hear this clearly. You are not behind, you are not a failure, and you do not have to wait until January to begin again.
What do you do when you have given up on a goal?
The first step is not a new plan. It is grace. Most of us respond to a stalled goal with guilt, and guilt is a terrible motivator. It keeps us stuck in shame instead of moving us forward.
So before you touch a calendar or a checklist, take a breath and release the guilt. God is not disappointed in you for a hard season. A goal that stalled is not a goal that died. It is simply waiting for you to come back to it with fresh eyes and a softer heart.
I say that as someone who has lived it. If you want the longer version of my story, you can read more about my own road back here.
Is it too late to restart a goal in the middle of the year?
Not even close. You still have almost six months left in this year. That is enough time to build a new habit, make real progress on your health, grow in your faith, or finish something you started.
A mid year restart is simply the decision to finish this year with intention instead of regret.
How do you restart a goal without starting over?
You do not have to go back to square one. In fact, please do not. Starting over erases everything you learned in the first half of the year, and that learning is valuable.
Instead, try this:
- Name what actually happened. Not the guilt version, the honest version. Did the goal stop mattering? Did life get heavy? Did the plan not fit your real schedule?
- Keep what worked. Even a few good weeks in February taught you something. Hold onto it.
- Shrink the next step. The way back into a goal is almost always smaller than you think. One walk. One page. One honest conversation.
- Anchor it in why. A goal rooted in comparison will stall again. A goal rooted in who God is calling you to become will hold.
If step four is the one that stops you, that is usually a sign the goal needs more than a better calendar. That is the work we do together in 1:1 coaching, and it is also the heart of Rooted and Rising if you would rather walk it out alongside other women.
What does a mid year reset actually look like?
It looks like sitting down for twenty quiet minutes with a few honest questions. What did I set out to do? What got in the way? What matters enough to pick back up? What is my one next step?
That is exactly why I created the Mid Year Restart Guide. It is a free three page guided reset that walks you through those questions with grace, scripture, and a simple plan you can actually follow. No pressure, no shame, just a gentle path back to the goal you have not stopped caring about.
Frequently asked questions about restarting your goals
How long does the Mid Year Restart Guide take to complete?
Most women finish the guide in about twenty minutes, or one cup of coffee. It is three pages of guided questions and a simple next step plan, designed to fit into a quiet moment rather than demand a whole afternoon.
Is the Mid Year Restart Guide really free?
Yes, the guide is completely free. Enter your first name and email and it will arrive in your inbox within a few minutes. You will also receive the monthly Motion and Mindset newsletter with faith rooted encouragement, and you can unsubscribe anytime.
What if I have already restarted my goal and quit more than once?
Most people restart more than once. Every restart teaches you something about what works for your real life. The guide helps you name what got in the way so your next restart is built on honesty instead of willpower alone.
Do I need to set a brand new goal for the second half of the year?
No. In most cases the goal you set in January is still worth pursuing, it just needs a smaller next step and a stronger why. The guide walks you through deciding whether to recommit to your original goal or adjust it to fit your current season.
Is the Mid Year Restart Guide faith based?
Yes. The Mid Year Restart Guide is written from a faith rooted perspective and includes scripture alongside the reflection questions. You do not need to be in any particular place in your faith journey to use it. It is written with grace for wherever you are.
